Welcome to the Bishop Patrick Lynch Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Website. As President, I would like to thank you for taking the time to review what we are all about. The word "Hibernian" is the "Latin" word for Ireland.
Historically, the Hibernian order was a secret organization for many years, established at a time when the Irish population in the United States exploded due to an influx of immigrants. The mission of the group then was to protect the clergy, defend the Catholic Church and assist Irish-Catholic immigrants faced with discrimination and harsh working conditions in America. Many years later those of us with an Irish-Catholic heritage still gather to promote "Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity". Today our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month, excluding July. We start our social meeting at 6:30pm at Saint Andrews on Pinckney Colony Road. Members and member-invited guest seeking to join the organization may attend. We socialize and then hold our business meeting to discuss business and upcoming activities. During the year, we find the time to gather at our monthly "pub crawls" at one of several Irish Pubs. We can participate in the annual Leprechaun Open Golf Tournament. We join the ladies and participate in joint events with the Ladies AOH St. Ciara Division. Early in the year we celebrate the life of Bishop Patrick N Lynch, third Bishop of Charleston, who was bishop during the "War Between the States" followed by a communion breakfast. During the month of March, we celebrated St Patrick's Day with Mass and participate in the Hilton Head St. Patrick's Day Parade. ![]() As you can see, we have a schedule which keeps us busy throughout the year. We continue to act, review and change our activities to help us fulfill our motto of "Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity". To those of you who may be interested in joining, contact any one of our members for additional information or read the membership application form on this website for your convenience. In the motto of "Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity", Richard H. Kearns, President Patrick N Lynch Division, Rhk845@hargray.com (843)705-2365 |
